Dalmia Bharat Foundation launches Digital learning laboratory ‘World on Wheels’ in Tamil Nadu
Ariyalur/Trichy, 8th February 2021: Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF), an arm of Dalmia Bharat Group, has launched a mobile computer and digital literacy lab named "World on Wheels" (WoW) bus in association with HP India in Ariyalur and Trichy districts of Tamil Nadu to accelerate the digital transformation of learning through e-education. Through this initiative, the company aims to train 600 students who are from 10-12 schools. The WoW bus will cover schools in three blocks from the two districts.
The lab was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr. Thamarai S. Rajendran, Tamil Nadu Government Chief Whip in the presence of Ms. D. Ratna, I.A.S., District Collector of Ariyalur, Mr. A. Thiagarajan, the Chief Educational Officer of Ariyalur District, Mr. Naveen Kumar, DDM, NABARD, Mr. R A Krishnakumar, Regional Manufacturing Head, and Mr. A.V.N.V.S. Murthy, Unit Head, Dalmia Cement, Ariyalur.
DBCL plans to provide 20 hours of digital literacy to students in schools (above 7th standard) and colleges. It also aims to train Anganwadi workers, PHC Staff, Women SHG members, Security staff at the cement plant, and farmers among others. Moreover, the unemployed youth will be trained on “Customer Relationship Management”, sponsored by NABARD.
The course which is focused on driving digital literacy and entrepreneurship training is designed by Dalmia Bharat Foundation to teach the students how to use the computer for basic purposes like preparing his/her personnel/business letters, viewing information on the Internet (the web), sending e-mails and using internet banking services.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. A.V.N.V.S Murthy, Unit Head, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd, Ariyalur said, “In this fast-paced world, the need for digital literacy is now more than ever. The objective of this initiative is to make the students capable of competing with the outside world with the right training and development. As a company, we are always working towards developmental initiatives and creating employable opportunities for underprivileged communities. Through this programme, we are also dedicating our efforts to the government’s Skill India Mission.”
Commenting on the launch, Thamarai S. Rajendran, Tamil Nadu Government Chief Whip said, “The making of a Digital India calls for the adoption of technology to make life better and easier for everyone everywhere. The COVID-induced pandemic has reiterated the importance of being technologically literate. This programme will undoubtedly create more opportunities for the less fortunate section of the society who do not have access to quality education. It will boost digital literacy, encourage entrepreneurial thinking, uplift the communities and give them a better means of livelihood.”
Speaking at the launch, Ms D Ratna, I.A.S., District Collector of Ariyalur said, “I sincerely appreciate the efforts taken by Dalmia Bharat Foundation to promote digital learning in the region. The Digital Learning Laboratory ‘World on Wheels’ will provide education and information to both children and youth and have a positive impact on society. As the world is shifting from analogue to digital, acquiring such skills will empower the youth of the country and help them to build a better future in the digital world.”
The WoW Bus is a self-contained, internet-enabled, and solar-powered facility. The bus which has features such as CCTV live monitoring and biometrics also has an interactive screen (Benq) installed inside and a screen installed on the rear side which can be used as a mobilisation tool to reach the communities It is also equipped with HP computing and printing equipment as well as numerous software suites and e-learning tools.
