Dalmia Bharat Foundation’s Gram Parivartan Project Driving Sustainable Transformation in Kalyanpur, Bihar
Kalyanpur, 11th February 2025: The Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF) , the CSR arm of Dalmia Bharat Ltd (DBL), is driving a profound transformation in rural Bihar through its pioneering flagship programme – the Gram Parivartan Project. Focused on sustainable livelihoods and holistic community development, the initiative has made a visible difference in the lives of over 4827 beneficiaries across nine villages in three Gram Panchayats of Samahuta, Baknoura, and Banjari—near its Dalmia Cement (Rohtas Cement Works) Plant in Kalyanpur. Through targeted household-level interventions, the project empowers rural households and enhances economic opportunities by driving sustainable farming, skill development, and entrepreneurship. Out of 3,367 mapped households, an impressive 2,991 households have been directly impacted over 18 months, improving community livelihoods and quality of life.
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Ashutosh Kumar Tiwary, Deputy Executive Director and Unit Head, Dalmia Cement - RCW said, “The Gram Parivartan Project was launched to help grass-root communities build sustainable, eco-friendly, and equitable livelihoods, ensuring long-term economic progress. Through this initiative, farmers are adopting climate-resilient practices, women are stepping into entrepreneurship, and youth are gaining industry-relevant skills, driving economic self-reliance and inclusive progress in the region. Looking ahead, DBF aims to expand the reach of this transformative initiative to underserved communities and drive broader environmental and social impact.”
Through a multi-pronged approach, Gram Parivartan promotes sustainable agriculture, livestock management, skill development, and micro-enterprises. Over 2,000 farmers have adopted sustainable farming practices that enhance productivity while preserving soil health. By promoting vermicompost, Jeevaamrut, and Azolla cultivation, the foundation reduces chemical dependency and advances regenerative agriculture. Diversified crop support, including potato, onion, green peas, and garlic cultivation, ensures food security and improved incomes. Additionally, initiatives like poultry and goat rearing, kitchen gardens, green fodder, and mushroom farming contribute to nutrition, livestock well-being, and alternative livelihoods. More than 180 youth have been trained at the DIKSHa skill development center in trades such as healthcare and electrical work, securing stable jobs with monthly incomes of ₹15,000-₹20,000. Social infrastructure improvements, such as school renovations, clean drinking water access, and healthcare facility upgrades, have benefited thousands. Health camps and digital literacy programs have further supported community well-being.
Through the Gram Parivartan Project, DBF aims to drive progress toward sustainable development goals, long-term growth, and resilience in rural communities in the regions of their operations.
